In 1971 I was driving an auto parts delivery truck when I heard that my lottery number was 002. I had just passed over the Jackson Ave. viaduct in Memphis, TN.
That afternoon I called a friend whose Daddy was stationed at the Millington Navy base at Millington, TN. His son and I were both the same age and eligible for the draft. He helped us both join the Navy Reserve unit in Millington. We went to boot camp there (last company) and then to the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL for A-School. He became and AE, me an AO (I got the last AO billet).
